  Anticipate: A Children’s Lent Series

  This series for children explores the season of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday and continuing through six Sundays. Kids will learn about lament, repentance, and anticipation in terms they can understand. They will talk about how we are sad about our sins but joyful because God has come and saved us.

    Ash Wednesday

    Ash Wednesday is the beginning of our journey into Lent and is marked by fasting and growth in discipleship.

    Week 1

    Lent is a season in which we lament our personal sin and brokenness.

    Week 2

    Lent is a season in which we lament (or feel sad about and confess) the sins in our lives, in the church, and in the world.

    Week 3

    Lamenting personal sin brings about repentance, which means turning from the wrong path we were on and turning toward the right path with God.

    The church must lament putting our “good deeds” before our love of God.

    Lament and repentance bring an anticipation for God’s work of grace and holiness in our lives.
