Series Guide

Overview

This series looks at times in the Bible when men and women felt alone or abandoned and found that God was with them. Stories like those of Dinah and the widow of Zarephath’s son show us that even when those we should be able to lean on and trust have betrayed or abandoned us, God still sees, cares, and intercedes on our behalf—even if we can’t see his loving hand in the midst of our grief and hurt.

Weekly Previews

Never Alone - Week 1

It can be difficult to find our way forward when we are the victims of a violent crime or abuse. It becomes even more difficult when our family is more concerned with their reputation and their personal thirst for vengeance than they are with the needs and care of the family member who has been assaulted or abused. However, God shows us several times in the book of Genesis that he sees and cares for those whose innocence and voice is stolen—even when they can’t see his care in the darkest moments of their grief and pain.

Never Alone - Week 2

We don’t have much of a say about the families or communities we’re born into. This can make life especially challenging for those whose dreams put them at odds with those closest to them. It can feel isolating and hopeless when those who are meant to nurture and care for us are the ones who harm us the most. But God sees those who are living in dysfunctional families, and he too desires a healthy and abundant life for us.

Never Alone - Week 3

We live in a world where racism and prejudice often seem to run unchecked. The emotional fallout and trauma that members of minority or marginalized communities experience as a result can leave them feeling as if there is no safe space for them. However, God does not turn a blind eye to injustice. He promises to comfort the oppressed and to hold the guilty to account, in this life or in the next.

Never Alone - Week 4

We live in a world filled with uncertainty; for some this looks like a child or teen being unsure of where their next meal is coming from. Apart from the physical pangs of hunger, those who live with food insecurity may also experience struggles with their mental and emotional well-being that can leave them feeling as if God has abandoned them or is unconcerned about their circumstances. But Scripture shows us that God cares about every detail in our lives, including where our next meal comes from.
