Series Guide
Overview
The early church established statements of belief to be recited by believers as a way of summarizing many of the doctrinal truths expressed in Scripture. These statements of faith were called creeds. This nine-week sermon series dissects the foundational beliefs in the Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”
Weekly Previews
I Believe - Week 2
Jesus isn’t merely a wise teacher, but God in the flesh. Believing this requires radical sacrifice.
I Believe - Week 3
Jesus suffered as a man, making Himself susceptible to all of our pains and sorrows, and then, ultimately, taking on His own body the consequences of sin when He died on the cross.
I Believe - Week 4
Jesus defeated sin and death through His resurrection. Because He was raised, we are empowered to bring that new life into the world.
I Believe - Week 5
Because the Son of God died sacrificially, the Father has given Him the authority to judge the world when He comes again. If we have trusted in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we do not have to fear punishment on that day.
I Believe - Week 6
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence on earth, and He, along with the Father and the Son, make up the Trinity. In our own lives, we must rely on the work of the Holy Spirit; He is our Helper.
I Believe - Week 7
To become a Christian is to become a member of God’s family. This belonging permeates every day life, not just at church on Sunday mornings.
I Believe - Week 8
When we trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are completely forgiven of all our sin—past, present, and future. Continual repentance is important in the life of a believer.
I Believe - Week 9
At the end of this age, the dead will rise. Because Jesus defeated death, Christians can have full assurance that we will not only be raised from the dead, we will live with God forever.
